June 2nd - July 6th, EWC/SHAPPS/SUNRISE - Field School



Dr. Steven Howard, EWC archeologists Eastern Wyoming College and Sunrise and SHAPPS, Sunrise Wyoming Field School.
This will be a 6-credit college field school course running six days a week from June 2 through July 6. The course covers basic laboratory and field methods in archaeology for data collection, analysis and interpretation of cultural material. Emphasis is placed on archaeological questions, scientific methods, heritage preservation and culture change. It also includes basics of site management and directing research. It is primarily designed for anthropology students and/or those students interested in pursuing archaeological fieldwork as either a career or life experience.

    June 17th - June 29th, International & National volunteer field study at SUNRISE with Dr. Steve Howard ( TENTATIVE)



    Dr. STEVE HOWARD will be
    hosting volunteers from the Volunteers for Peace (VFP) work camp program for a International / National field study of the Sunrise and Powars II area.

  • Up to eight volunteers from across the globe will work with the field school students to learn about archaeology, and lend their hands to various improvement projects at Sunrise Mine.

    The SHAPPS/EWC Summer Symposium (tentatively themed "Exploring Early Cultures in the Americas") will involve a reception on the evening,Thursday June 27th, at EWC's Fine Arts Center, with speakers from various countries in the Americas Thursday and Friday evening in the auditorium.

  • Attendees will also be encouraged to take day shuttles (or drive out if they prefer) on Friday and Saturday to Sunrise Mine for tours and activities, including refreshments.
